Block Chronicles Announces 2021 Pittsburgh Latinx Artist Residency Program

Block Chronicles, in collaboration with Casa San Jose, is pleased to announce the 2021 inaugural cohort for the Pittsburgh Latinx Artist Residency Program (P-LAR), a 10-month opportunity for emerging Latinx artists in Allegheny County, supported in part by New Sun Rising's Collective Action for Re-imagining (CAR) Grants. Founder, Dr. Jason Méndez shares, “the program was designed to help Latinx artists establish a sustainable career as creatives and building a community of support and mentorship. But this was also developed to allow for us to dig deeper in the stories we tell as artists.”

The artists participating in the artist residency program include:

Rafael Bullones - Visual Artist

Gina L. Guevara - Architect & Interior Designer

Jorge Antonio Gumucio - Writer, Playwright & Filmmaker

Rafael Migoyo - Conceptual Artist & Photographer

Roger Romero - Composer, Musician & Producer

Our artists represent a wide range of professional backgrounds, career stages, and artistic media and approaches. Each artist is granted a $5000 stipend and has the opportunity to engage in professional development workshops with artists and art professionals from across the country and abroad. The artists will also receive additional funding to develop a new project.

Block Chronicles (BC), is a national web-series and online magazine profiling the work of Latinx and other BIPOC educators, artists, researchers, and community organizations in the areas of Education; Health Equity; Arts & Culture.

Casa San Jose is a community resource center that advocates for and empowers Latinos by promoting integration and self-sufficiency.
